Lieutenant Colonel Richard VelazquezLieutenant Colonel Richard Velazquez entered military service in June 1986 and served over eight years enlisted including seven years in the 82nd Airborne Division and a combat tour to Desert Shield/Desert Storm. In 1994 he received a Green to Gold ROTC Scholarship and graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Campbell University in 1996 with a commission into the Medical Service Corps.

Lieutenant Colonel Velazquez has held a variety of Command and Staff positions throughout his service. Highlights include: Executive Officer, B Company, 187th Medical Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, TX; Medical Platoon Leader, 2-35th Infantry Battalion, 25th ID, Schofield Barracks, HI; Medical Plans Officer, DMOC, 25th ID, Schofield Barracks, HI; Medical Plans Officer, DMOC, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC; Coalition Task Force-82nd Medical Plans & Operations Officer, Operation Enduring Freedom, Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan; Commander, C Company, 782nd Main Support Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC and Operation Iraqi Freedom; CENTCOM Desk Officer, Current Operations, U.S. Army Medical Command, Fort Sam Houston, TX; Chief, Current Operations, Great Plains Regional Medical Command, Fort Sam Houston, TX; Chief, Operations, 8th Army Surgeon’s Division, Yongsan, Korea; Executive Officer, 232nd Medical Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, TX; Commander, Headquarters Company, 32d Medical Brigade, Fort Sam Houston, TX; Brigade S3, 32d Medical Brigade, Fort Sam Houston, TX and Deputy, Assistant Program Manager for Health Affairs, OPM-SANG, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Lieutenant Colonel Velazquez’s military education includes the AMEDD Officer Basic Courses, the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, the Combined Arms and Service Staff School, and the Command and General Staff College. Lieutenant Colonel Velazquez’s formal civilian education includes a Master of Arts degree in Management with concentration in Leadership from Webster University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Campbell University, Buies Creek, NC.

Lieutenant Colonel Velazquez’s awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC); the Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC); the Army Commendation Medal (8 OLC), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (4 OLC); the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal (Bronze Service Star) and Expeditionary Medals; the Southwest Asia Service Medal (Bronze Service Star), the Kuwait Defense Service Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), the National Defense Service Medal; the Expert Field Medical Badge, the Masters Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

Lieutenant Colonel Velazquez is married to the former Annette Robinson of Jacksonville, Florida and is the proud step-father of his daughter, Tory and Son, Brandon who are both adult aged.
